Fighting the Odds

There is a big cheer around the Goodfellas Casino Arena, as the cameras cut to the backstage area where sVo Champion August Lazar is standing by with Katie Smith! Lazar is flanked by both members of BIG Trouble, as the smiling interviewer Smith holds the sVo branded microphone up.

Katie Smith: “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Countdown to Violence 2023! I am here with August Lazar, the reigning sVo Champion, who tonight faces one of the biggest challenges of his career as he takes on not one, not two, but three sVo legends in the main event with the sVo Championship belt on the line!”

Lazar looks down at the gold on his shoulder as Smith talks, with BIG Trouble giving him a reassuring pat on the back.

Katie Smith: “Now August, last time out on Showdown you gave a passionate speech about how you didn’t think you were getting the respect you deserved as sVo Champion. What made you feel this way?”

Lazar looks down at Smith, before the big Romanian signals for the pretty interviewer to follow him. Smith looks a little confused, before following the sVo Champion and BIG Trouble. The three walk through the door that separates the backstage of the Goodfellas Casino Arena to the concourse area, and fans quickly swarm to try and get a selfie with the champ. Security struggles to hold the fans back, as Lazar leads Katie Smith towards one of the gambling booths set up in the concourse, before pointing up at the odds for tonight’s main event. Lazar looks a little angry as he reads them down.

August Lazar: “Katie, I am not American, but how many times in any country in the world does a CHAMPION by the least favourite to win in a match for his own title?”

Smith looks a little lost for words.

August Lazar: “Shame for the book makers….. Tonight I add them to the list of people I prove wrong.”

Lazar and BIG Trouble make their way back to the backstage area of the arena as security parts the fans for them as Katie Smith throws it back to ringside.

Backup

We head backstage where Kenneth D Williams is in his locker room, preparing for his match later tonight against Darwin Jones. The Human Highlight Reel looks like he knows what a massive challenge he has on his hands later tonight, taking on not just Jones but also Curtis Knight & Athena in his corner.

As Williams continues to prepare for the match, there is a knock on the door and Williams automatically grabs a nearby steel chair to use for protection against an attack.

However the attack is not forthcoming as the door opens and in walks the Starr Brothers, looking a little battered and bruised.

Kenneth D Williams: “Bros!”

Williams and the Starr Brothers exchange fist bumps all around.

Kenneth D Williams: “What are you doing here, I thought you two were out of action?”

Darren and Simon Starr look at each other and shrug.

Simon Starr: “You think we were going to let you go it alone against those meat heads after what they put you through? After what they put us through?”

Darren Starr: “We got your back Kenny!”

Williams looks delighted as he fist bumps the Starr Brothers and the scene fades out.

The cameras head backstage where the sVo Tag Team Champions are making their way backstage with their gold, after another successful title defence! Moretti and Barone are in a jovial mood, until they open the Blood Money locker room door and stumble in to find Junior Gambino drowning his sorrows with a beer.

There three look at each other awkwardly for a few seconds.

Junior Gambino: “I guess congratulations are in order friends….”

Gambino toasts towards the Tag Team Champions with his beer bottle.

Anthony Moretti: “Oh! Cheer up Junior, you put a good account of yourself out there.”

Junior Gambino: “Good…. But not good enough, eh?”

“No, not good enough….”

The mocking voice comes from the doorway, as Johnny Moretti enters the locker room.

Johnny Moretti: “But, not many people are good enough!”

Johnny Moretti helps himself to a beer before sitting down, as the other three members of the group sit awkwardly in silence.

Putting the Elimination in Elimination Match Pt1

We head backstage to the locker room area of the Goodfellas Casino Arena, and there is a big cheer from the crowd as BBD is seen on screen! Despite the multiple empty bottles of Jack Daniels strown around the room, ‘Beautiful’ Bobby Dean looks to be deep in preparation for his chance to win the belt that has so far alluded him his whole career, the sVo Championship!

Suddenly the locker room door bursts off of its hinges, William Vorheez kicks it down and swarms into the room along with the Black Brothers! The three giants quickly lay into Dean with big rights and lefts, taking him down to the ground!

Vorheez and the Black Brothers ground and pound Dean, before Dean is able to fight his way up to a standing position. Dean smashes a bottle of JD’s over the head of Igor Black, before Boris Black and Vorheez take him back down again.

The fight is broken apart by the rest of the locker room quickly, as Vorheez and the Black Brothers break away from the melee, leaving everyone to check on the condition of Dean!

Will he be 100% for the main event later tonight after suffering such a beat down!

With only moments to go until the sVo Championship four way elimination match, there is a buzz in the arena as the camera cut backstage to the interview area, where Night is standing by with Katie Smith!

Katie Smith: “I am standing by with Hall of Famer Night who is only moments away from the opportunity to become a 3x sVo Champion as he steps into the main event with Bobby Dean, William Vorheez and sVo Champion Big Aug!….”

Before Smith has the chance to ask even the first question, Night is jumped from behind by Vorheez and the Black Brothers! The fans boo loudly as the three giants put the boots into Night, as Smith runs in terror!

sVo Championship Match
Big Aug © vs. William Vorheez vs. Bobby Dean vs. Night

“Starts Right Here” by Foreign Air and Kenny Mason plays and out comes the towering form of the man called Big Aug! He puts one hand on his title belt and the other on his forehead as he scans the crowd before heading towards the ring slowly. The sVo Champion raises a hand in the air and raises his arm to the cheering crowd. He steps onto the ring apron and eggs the crowd on for a louder response then steps over the ropes to enter the squared circle.

The arena goes pitch black as the opening guitar riff from “Abominator” by Doyle plays. Smoke billows up from the bottom of the staging area, as green laser lights dance across the stage. Just as the opening riff comes to a close, two large hits of a drum can be heard, and pyro goes off syncing with them. The song dives in, as Vorheez makes his appearance at the top of the ramp. Wearing a long black, sleeveless coat, that has green stitching and it covered in small spikes, as well as a black, beat up, cowboy hat covering his eyes. Vorheez marches slowly down to the ring, his eyes fixated on the ring, looking determined, and focused. As Vorheez climbs onto the ring apron and climbs inside the ring, the lights slowly come up and the music fades.

Vorheez looks very pleased with himself at eliminating Bobby Dean and Night earlier in the evening, as he eyeballs the sVo Champion and the sVo Championship. Lazar hands the belt to the referee who holds it in the air to signal that it will be on the line in this single match, before handing it to the outside. The referee begins to call for the bell to be rung, but before he can complete the action….

“Try to be best
‘Cause you’re only a man
And a man’s gotta learn to take it
Try to believe
Though the going gets rough
That you gotta hang tough to make it
History repeats itself
Try and you’ll succeed
Never doubt that you’re the one
And you can have your dreams!”

“You’re the Best” begins to play as the lights go down and a baby blue spotlight is shown at the top of the entrance ramp. BBD limps comes out to a chorus of cheers in his baby blue Ric Flair-esque robe that is covered in sparkling diamonds. He struts his way down the entrance ramp refusing to touch the out stretched hands of fans at ringside. Walking up the steel steps, he wipes his feet off before stepping into the ring. Walking over to his corner he proceeds to remove his robe and warm up for the upcoming match!

Vorheez looks angry at Dean being able to make it to the ring, but suddenly gets even angrier as…..

A whisper…

“I’m dreaming…”

The distant chords of Deftones’ “Knife Party” cut through the PA as the arena lights cut completely. The Tron sparks to life as the words “I’m dreaming…” float onto it. As the song erupts the words are replaced by one.

A name.

” N I G H T “

An explosion of purple light as Night appears.

The hall of famer stands at the top of the entrance ramp – motionless for a moment, his stance elegant and mysterious, giving away nothing of his motives. As the music swirls away, the man only known as Night begins his walk to the ring – only, he doesn’t walk, it appears more of a graceful glide. Although he moves seamlessly, he moves deceptively quickly to the ring, sliding deliberately and headfirst into the ring.

With all four men in the ring, the referee calls for the bell to be rung and the main event to get started!
